Public Notice of School Board Election Proposition

Public Notice of School Board Election Proposition

The Board of Education of Chester Community Unit School District No. 139 will bepresented with a motion at their April 19, 2018, regular meeting to adopt a Resolution providing for the submission of a proposition to change how members of the board of education are elected to serve the Chester School District.

Currently, a restriction that not more than three (3) members of the board of education may be selected from any one (1) congressional township that is part of the school district. Thus, creating the possibility of not filling all seats available, yet having candidates not elected due to the restriction.

The proposition, if passed, will be placed on the ballot of the November 6, 2018, General Election for voters to decide if they want to open future board elections to all available candidates for all available open seats, “At-Large,” and without restriction by area of residence within the district; such proposition must be approved by a majority of the votes in each district township cast or by two-thirds of all voters voting on the proposition.
